Learn seed saving with the Brown Envelope Gang. From 11pm -4pm. By the end of the day we hope you will be able to:

  1. describe the process of plant reproduction. 
  2. describe the difference between self-pollination and cross-pollination.
  3. establish which vegetables cross with each other and which don’t.
  4. Understand  in-breeding and out-breeding and the importance of having an appropriate population of plants for seed-saving
  5. Sow and space annual crops for seed production
  6. Select plants for seed production.
  7. Know how to maintain flowering biennials and protect from wind damage
  8. Describe the importance of labelling and record keeping.
  9. Harvest seeds plants
  10. Dry seed plants in preparation for threshing
  11. Thresh by hand, and using simple tools.
  12. Clean seeds using screens and by winnowing
  13. Know how to carry out germination tests
  14. Extract seeds from wet fruit such as tomatoes and cucumbers
  15. Dry and store seeds
  16. Manage their personal seed bank
