Herbs are usually easy to grow but vary considerably in their habits and needs. Annuals such as Borage, Chervil and Dill can be sown in any small vacant place in the garden. Basil needs a bit of heat and is happiest in the green house but can do well out of doors in a sunny spot in mid-summer. Coriander likes protection too and bolts in mid-summer but crops well all winter if sown under cover in the autumn. Parsley is biennial and will go to seed in the second year. Perennial herbs such as Salad Burnet and Chives need a permenant spot as closre to the back door as possible.
